ILM Level 5: Coaching and Mentoring

To ensure you receive a high quality, professional coaching experience, NELA is increasing coaching capability by investing in skills training for all our coaches.

With this in mind, we have commissioned a 5-day ILM Level 5 coaching programme for leaders and managers interested in practicing as a coach to further develop the professional coaching community within our region.

About the programme

By completing this programme you will develop the technical skills and knowledge required for coaching. 

It is an opportunity to learn and practice fundamental coaching tools, techniques and develop an understanding of coaching which will enable the clinicians and managers to establish a coaching relationship and coach competently, ethically and with confidence. 

This advanced level of coaching will ensure you, as a coach, can deal effectively with challenging, conflict and emotional situations to use a coaching style and techniques in a range of situations.

Upon completion you will be accredited with an ILM level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring. 

Programme structure

PART 1: 28,29 & 30 June 2017

3-day coaching programme: Focus on establishing coaching relationship and developing coaching skills. Including an introduction of the coaching toolkit.    

PART 2: 28 & 29 September 2017

2-day coaching programme: Focus on developing advanced personal communication skills and dealing with difficult situations.    

The programme is delivered at John Buddle Work Village, Buddle Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 8AW.

Who should apply
 
Candidates should have displayed leadership capability as identified by internal talent management and/or appraisal systems and have a desire to engage and support others through the use of a coaching practice and culture.

Organisations are encouraged to have a transparent process of selection to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunities. The cohort will be identified from the application forms ensuring fair representation from across partner organisations taking into account previous cohorts.

How to apply

Each Leadership Lead may nominate one participant from their organisation for this programme by completing the application form in partnership with the applicant.

Participants will be informed of the outcome of their acceptance on the programme no later than 7 June 2017.

Terms & conditions

All participants must:

  • Attend all five full day sessions.
  • Complete written assignments and submit them within agreed timescales, set by the provider on induction.
  • Complete at least 12 hours coaching at management level, maintaining reflective notes and records of each session.
  • Complete a self-assessment and evidenced assessment analysis of ability as a coach or mentor, and reflections on own performance as a coach or mentor.

Please note that attendance and completion of all elements of this programme is mandatory. Failure to attend the complete programme may result in the withdrawal of participants and the cost of the programme being invoiced to the supporting organisation.

The course is delivered free of charge to participants but any travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of their employing organisations.

Sponsors are asked to support those participants who are able to commit to attending the full programme and have the support and organisational sponsorship from their line manager to fulfil their ongoing obligation as a NELA coach.

Following completion of the programme there is a requirement that coaches will register and record all coaching activity via Coachnet, deliver a minimum of four coaching relationships/interventions, and participate in two CPD and Supervision sessions per annum.
