System Leadership

Leadership Dimensions:

You'd never build a house without an architectural design. In the same way, Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) need a well-designed healthcare system along with great system leaders if they are to succeed.

This one-day organisation design masterclass will develop Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) members’ capability to design the environment in which systems leadership can thrive. It will give them the tools to convert STP models and ideas into the reality of delivering their systems ambitions.

We will explore the need to focus on population and patient needs as well as staff and organisational needs.

Participants will learn how organising around purpose and meaning enables linkage between quality and value improvement with key organisational challenges such as staff engagement. We will also explore how governance can be designed and adapted.

Attendees will apply some key tools to their own design challenges and consider these in light of the 12 tests of organisation design.

By participating in this masterclass you will leave with:

  • A clear understanding of the importance of organising work around the patient journey and not organisational processes, or functions.
  • Understanding the relationship between organisation design and wider change practices.
  • Insight into when to use organisation design and the questions asked in a design process.
  • Understanding the importance of co-design and why engaging those affected will deliver great results that are owned by the people.
  • Understanding the implications of new models of care and STPs on individual organisations and whole systems.
  • Increased experience and capability through applying key tools to participants own design challenges and case studies.
