Lunch and Learn -Turning the Perception of Disability Upside Down – My Story

The purpose of my presentation is to talk to you about my experience of adversity and how I have used this to enhance my life and that of others around me.

As an adult with end stage kidney failure I faced a lot of unknowns. However what I recognised quickly was that this shift in my life need not be negative and that my lived experience would could drive positive change.


Cheryl is an Occupational Therapist currently working with children who are undergoing STEM cell or bone marrow transplants 2.5 days a week. Chery is also on secondment 2.5 days per week to Northumbria University where she lectures on the Occupational Therapy programme, in addition Cheryl is also the chair person for the disability staff network at Newcastle Hospital


Our Lunch and Learn sessions will offer sociable, collaborative alternative to traditional classroom based learning, The sessions are a great way to foster a culture of learning and knowledge, encouraging growth and strengthening ties across the region which will enable us to build a stronger work culture in the NHS.
