Lunch and Learn : Improving Cancer Outcomes - Public Involvement in a Pandemic

Attendees will have the opportunity to understand the approach adopted by the Northern Cancer Alliance to involve members of the public throughout the pandemic.

The session will detail how the Alliance involved members of the public in the initial response to pandemic and recovery activities, in particular the development of local “Help Us Help You” urgent cancer referral activities that focus on reducing health inequalities.

What we will cover :

• Understanding the Alliance strategy for public involvement.

• Understanding the impact of the pandemic on cancer services and the patient experience.

• Understanding the Cancer Alliance approach to reducing health inequalities through public involvement.

• Being aware how community partnerships and public involvement is supporting the recovery of cancer services and service change.

• Have an opportunity to discuss the challenges we face when attempting involve people in the current environment.

Host Bio

Jo Mackintosh has worked within the NHS for more than 30 years. Jo’s early career began within NHS dental services working in a number of roles including dental nursing and practice management. She later went on to hold roles that have included working within health improvement, patient experience, quality improvement and operational management in primary and secondary care organisations. Her current role is Delivery Manager leading on communications & involvement for the Northern Cancer Alliance.
