How Do We Keep Going?: Exploring Burn-Out, Wellness and Responsibility in Anti-Racist Work

An online event to celebrate black history month across the region. As part of the event we will have a keynote speech delivered followed by break out session discussions.

The programme consists of a joint session focusing on reducing the risk of burnout whilst undertaking anti- racism work.

The keynote speech will be presented by Dr Roman Farooq. Dr Farooq is a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead in the Children & Young People Secure Estate in the North East. She is also Academic Tutor and Anti-Racism Lead at Newcastle University. She currently is an Expert Member of the Child Exploitation Parliamentary Advisory Group in the House of Commons and a member of the North East & Yorkshire Psychological Professions Network Steering Group. She is currently leading on increasing diversity in Clinical Psychology having set up and delivered the North East Mentoring Scheme for aspiring Psychologists from racialized backgrounds.

The speech will be followed by participants being transferred to breakout rooms where they will discuss their experiences and then feedback their reflections to the wider group.

We will also be sharing the lived experience of one of our regional network chairs to understand the issues she faced. This will hopefully prompt further discussions around the topic
