Compassionate Leadership

Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength.” Dalai Lama

The NHS People Plan has placed staff wellbeing and belonging at the heart of workforce planning and support. Organisations in which compassion prevails have employees with reduced stress and increased job satisfaction. Responding with compassion enables us to acknowledge and appreciate others wholeheartedly, supporting working toward shared goals rather than personal benefit. This supports a culture of building trust, mutual connections, and reciprocal support.

The definition of compassion clearly states the importance of the ‘action’ component in it. If compassion is not demonstrated through behaviours and responses, it cannot be conveyed.

Dr Angela Kennedy is a psychologist leading on Trauma Informed Care at TEWV, and also leads the Compassionate Leadership project, exploring the relationship between compassion in the workplace and wellbeing. This workshop will provide an opportunity to better understand your own behaviours, and to explore how you can truly demonstrate compassionate leadership
