The term ‘mentoring’ is often used interchangeably with coaching and other workplace processes designed to assist people in their career development.

Whilst there may be some overlap between these processes, mentoring is a longer-term, development-focused relationship that influences professional and personal growth.

A mentor will usually work in the same field as their mentee but at a more senior or experienced level, allowing them to provide appropriate advice and guidance. However, an effective mentor will also recognise that their own preferred approach might not fit the needs of their mentee and they will be able to adopt coaching techniques to help the mentee to identify their own route forward.

This networking session is aimed at:

  • understanding what mentoring activities and networks currently exist within the NHS in the region
  • developing an understanding of the appetite for mentoring, mentor training and mentor networks within our partner organisations
  • exploring different strategies for developing mentoring networks

We will also be introducing a range of speakers who can provide insight and reflections on their own experiences of developing mentoring networks.
