Coaching CPD: Metaphors and Clean Language in Coaching

We all use of metaphors in our daily language. As a coach, an awareness and understanding of metaphors can help to provide valuable insights into a coachee’s perception of their current situation and their desired goals. Clean Language is a coaching technique designed to help clients to develop their own metaphors, without contamination or unintentional content being introduced by the coach.

By the end of this session you will have shared and explored with each other the technique of clean coaching and metaphors to integrate into your practice as a coach, in order to better support your clients and organisation.

The session will include:

  • Exploring and using metaphors and clean language as a coach
  • Developing skills in seeing and recognising metaphors around you
  • Building an understanding of clean questions (the history, authors and approaches)
  • Practicing the use of clean questions
  • Experiential learning through co-coaching in pairs, triads and dyads.

This session is aimed at coaches operating within the NHS.
