About Us

The NHS North East Leadership Academy aims to continuously develop leaders and managers to improve health services for patients and communities throughout the north east of England.

It makes NHS leaders and managers more effective by supporting leadership development and providing opportunities that are unavailable elsewhere in the NHS.

Representing all NHS organisations in the North East and Cumbria, the Academy manages a wide range of events including workshops, formal development programmes, seminars, master classes and high-profile guest speakers. It supports coaching and mentoring, talent management and organisational development; oversees the Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) across the region; provides support for NHS national development programmes such as Nye Bevan, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Rosalind Franklin, Mary Seacole, Stepping up and the Aspiring Chief Executive Programme; and, offers bespoke local interventions and in-house training.

The Academy has 28 partners including acute and community provider organisations, clinical commissioning groups, Health Education England North East and area teams.

A partnership board governs the Academy to ensure it meets the needs of its partner organisations. The NHS North East Leadership Academy is also governed nationally as a Local Delivery Partner of the national NHS Leadership Academy.
