Future Clinical Commissioning Leaders

Applications for the next cohort of the Future Clinical Commissioning Leaders Programme are now open.

The programme begins in September 2016 and will be of interest to you if you are:

  • A senior clinical leader working in commissioning with support from your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to develop your skills.
  • Looking to move into a top commissioning leadership role in the next 12-18 months or new to one within the last nine months.
  • Wanting to develop your commissioning and leadership skills.
  • Working on a complex commissioning project.
  • Looking to network and share experiences with peers.

The Future Clinical Commissioning Leaders Programme is developed in partnership between NHS England, CCGs and the NHS Leadership Academy. Clinically led commissioning is at the core of the NHS commissioning system, with CCGs at the forefront of this and this programme is specifically designed  to meet the needs of GPs looking towards governing body and leadership roles.

The nine-month programme incorporates:

  • Three residential elements covering system and personal leadership, commissioning skills, and CCG-specific knowledge. 
  • Coaching and mentoring. 
  • Facilitated shared learning. 

Before starting the programme you must complete a Healthcare Leadership Model (HLM) 360° feedback survey and self-assessment; more information will be sent to successful applicants.

The programme commences with a two-day development centre on 28 and 29 September where your competencies, skills and experience are assessed against the full range of leadership qualities. 

You will receive personal feedback on your development needs and areas of excellence observed and assessed at the centre, and encapsulated in a detailed development report. A development coaching session will closely follow the assessment centre to discuss the findings, together with the results from the diagnostics. This will result in you prioritising your development needs, agreeing the personal objectives for the forthcoming development programme and signposting to any additional learning and development, including experiential opportunities
 
Following the development centre, you will be required to attend three residential events, and commit to coaching sessions and Action Learning Sets, both of which may be organised on a virtual basis or face-to-face, depending on personal and group preference.
 
All aspects of the programme are fully funded; however travel will need to be covered by you or your organisation.
