About Us

The NHS North East Leadership Academy aims to continuously develop leaders and managers to improve health services for patients and communities throughout the north east of England.

It makes NHS leaders and managers more effective by supporting leadership development and providing opportunities that are unavailable elsewhere in the NHS.

Based in Durham, the Academy manages a wide range of events including workshops, formal development programmes, seminars, master classes and high-profile guest speakers. It supports coaching and mentoring, talent management and organisational development; oversees the Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) across the region; administers participation in NHS national development programmes (Mary Seacole, Nye Bevan, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, The Directors Programme, Front Line Nursing & Midwifery); and, manages the annual NHS Leadership Recognition Awards in the north east.

The Academy has 27 partners including acute and community provider organisations, clinical commissioning groups, Health Education England North East and area teams.

A partnership board governs the Academy to ensure it meets the needs of its partner organisations. The NHS North East Leadership Academy is also governed nationally as a Local Delivery Partner of the national NHS Leadership Academy.
